In this session we looked at how to use color in better proportions, how to extract color and how to choose the right fabric.
My favorite colors are black, white, gray and red, and all the objects I use in my daily life are these colors. I also like to use these basic colors for my drawings. Therefore, I hope to practice my use and collocation of colors. In the production of shoes and Visual Studies Session, I have made some attempts, and I used bright contrast colors to make my works. I also continued my practice in this class.
I was interested in Knit, so I made new fabrics out of the fabric I chose. I made flowers out of different materials and put them together to mimic the bouquet of flowers in Araki’s photography. I also practiced using a simple loom to make woven fabrics. In order to make my fabrics more interesting, I also use some materials that are not in the fabric category, such as heat shrinkable sheets and wire. During the process I think about how they should be used on my clothes and how I can paint their textures.
Through the study of this class, I realized the importance of color in design. The teacher told us to try to challenge traditional color combinations and create new ideas. I think this approach can be applied to any part of the design, such as the challenge of creating new clothing structures and using unique fabrics. Because we’re supposed to be fashion innovators.
