Visual Studies Session 2

The content of this class is to cut and jigsaw the illustrations drawn in the last class, rearrange and combine them, and draw fashion figure illustrations.

Before this course, I did a survey about the brand I want to work for in the future, Comme des Garcons, and concluded that the reason why its design is recognizable is that it does not design clothes according to human body structure, and hides human body structure under clothes. I want to learn this design idea, so in this collage, I consider that my collage should not only be able to form the shape of the key parts of clothes, such as sleeves and collar, but also have a creative silhouette.

I’m not good at drawing faces, so in the past, I used to simplify parts of faces. I wanted to take this opportunity to improve my painting skills, so I did not put all the emphasis on painting clothes and neglected the details of painting faces as before. I first learned how others draw faces on Pinterest, and then combined my own personal style and my theme this time to design suitable faces for my series of illustrations. My design brightened up with a nice face.

In the process of drawing, I also thought about some methods of making textile. The flowers on my shoes are made of heat-shrinkable sheets, and I thought I could sew wire and cloth together and twist it into flowers. I can also cut strips of different materials and tie them together to create a unique woven texture. I will further test the feasibility of my ideas after class.

Through this class, my drawing skills have been greatly improved, which I think will be of great help to my drawing line up in the future. And I learned a new way to extract profiles. Later, when designing clothes, I can also make collage first, and then draw the outline I think by collage. Then, I can do the vertical cutting experiment to transform my paintings into real objects.
